Day Twenty-One: More Platform Building

Cover design for Drama lesson plans for busy teachers book one

We’re back from the camping trip. We’re still in recovery. It was fun, although at least some members of the party are swearing they will never go camping again. Today was all about getting back to my (partly accidental) audience for the new Drama Book. I learned a lot from the process, mainly that I need a system for managing interactions with readers – yes, it all comes back to project management again. Much as we don’t like to think about it, writing – anything creative – needs an element of project management. I tend to forget about it, so a big lesson for me this summer has been to redress the balance. I need to get the right amount of project management into my work, the right amount of ‘system’ – and it is possible to do that without selling out or becoming formulaic. There’s that word again: BALANCE. Seems as though I need to pay more attention to it.

Want more on Project Management for writers? I’ve written about it here. Now I just need to practise what I preach…
