You’ll get a series of short, gentle writing activities to try, via this blog, which will help you to come up with ideas for your writing and will allow you to pause and take a breath during the day. There’s no sign-up needed, all you have to do to take part is to take at least five minutes out of your day for seven days to do some writing, or simply to stop and notice things around you. I hope you’ll take part – let me know how it goes if you do! You can find out more about me and my writing here.
The first 7 day Writing and Mindfulness Challenge launched in June 2020 during the lockdown. I had been taking part in a challenge myself – to write a blog post every day for thirty days. So I had been sharing my thoughts on writing every day, whether it’s a good idea, how to do it, how to come up with ideas, how to find the time, all of that good kind of stuff. I got to thinking, what kind of challenge would I set if I was going to come up with my own writing challenge? And the Writing and Mindfulness Challenge was born!
In May 2023 I gave a writing and mindfulness workshop at Rewild Festival at the University of Brighton, so in honour of Rewild, ran a reboot of the 7 Day Writing and Mindfulness Challenge. Partly as a result of that event, and the panel I was on at the NAWE conference on writing and walking, I pitched a book on writing and mindfulness to Bloomsbury Academic – and they said yes! Watch this space. I’m hoping it will be out some time in 2026.
I’m running the challenge again in January 2025 and you can follow along with the challenge via my blog here.
Happy writing,
Lou
